We are Gary and Mickey Vander Veen, Dan and Lois Day. Bill and Dianne Ryckbost, John and Laurel Freiswyk, and Sandy Brewer. We're all members of 14th Street Church and except for the Days it's our second trip to Alaska, the first being four years ago. As was the case the last time Gary and Mickey are driving their truck with camper up leaving about June 6 and the rest will be flying up to rent RV's arriving at Anchorage on June 19. So for the first part of the blog you'll read about the Vander Veen's eating beans and rice generating cheap gas to help pay for $4.00 plus expensive gas. Our theme for the trip is "don't wait until you're in a walker," "remember Ike," and a new one "do it before it hits $8.00 a gallon."
Our goal is to enjoy God's general revelation in a beautiful part of the world and the exhilaration of discovering new things with old friends. Your comments and news of "back home" are appreciated.

Great start, Gary. We look forward to lots of adventures!
Well, we still think Montana/Alberta would be a better place to spend your summer (better people any way!) but we're excited for you trip. See you soon!

Enjoy the trip and travel safely! No worries on the aircraft (insurance).
Gary and Mickey, glad to hear you made it safely to Montana. Have a great weekend with the kids. We missed you at JP's this morning. We had nice group of 7, sat outside. We didn't solve the world's problems but we came closer to understanding the meaning of life.

I've been trying for a week to send you a note but it never shows up. I'll keep trying.

Now that I know how it's done I'll tell you how much we are enjoying your "fourteenth2Alaska" with envy.
The cold nights, already so soon, remind me to give you and the other Alaska travelers a bit of advice:
Don't kiss your honey
When your nose is runny.
You may think it's funny
But it'snot
Stay Safe!

Hi ya!!
Got your blog-cute-funny-nice and meaningful. Hello to Anna and Kurt. All fine on the western front. Linda took mom to Ford Museum Wednesday. Great! Mom has graduated to a soft diet, so far all is good. Dion met Paul, Wally's son, in Montreal Grand Prix on the weekend, which Paul was working. Dion loved it and he's in London now.
Nicole is trying hard to pass her certified nursing course so far it's good. Two more weeks! Heidi (Wally's daughter trying to deliver overdue baby in Santa Fe) Life is good, never boring and usually the norm. We are in good shape and loving summer and my garden this weekend. This weekend on our boat finally!!
Love Bonnie & Wally
